Students, I have already created an account for each of you to log into the website so you can can track your own progress as you make your own personal gains. I will provide this information to you in class.
I recommend you keep it in a secure spot with your other usernames/passwords in case you forget it.
In order to practice correctly, do not forget the 6 Secrets to Improving Your Typing (review if necessary).
When starting a practice session
1. Log into your account
2. Make sure you place a piece of paper (taped down) over your keys so you cannot see your fingers. Place your fingers on the correct home row keys - Left Hand: A S D F Right Hand: J K L ;
Make sure to anchor your index fingers (feel the little raised bump) on the F and J keys.
3. Continue with the previous lesson until it's mastered.
Your goal should be 20WPM (NET GAIN) per lesson before you move on. Lessons must be completed and mastered sequentially; do not select lessons randomly. It will adversely affect your progress.
Note: The average gross result just measures speed . It does not consider all your errors. That is why you need to look at your NET GAIN to evaluate your TRUE progress.
Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? If you type really really fast, you might finish quickly; but, if you have a lot of errors, you might not make it to the finish line. So take your time!
So, in recap, slow down, maintain good posture, use correct hand position, relax and focus.
Last but not least: Follow the 10-minute-a-day rule - Try to practice every day - of course, the more the better.
If you practice correctly and consistently, you will make some awesome gains!! I guarantee it!
